The Light/Shadow exposition at Silvacane Abbey of la Roque d’Anthéron

This week we are going to the small city of la Roque d’Anthéron, south of the Luberon Natural Park, to discover one of the works proposed by Silvacane Abbey during its 2016 cultural season, under the theme « Light and Movements ».
We invite you to discover the Italian artist Adalberto Mecarelli and its Lux Umbrae exposition.

Who is Adalberto Mecarelli ?

Adalberto Mecarelli is a contemporary artist of Italian origin.
He settled in France in 1968
He specializes in using light as his favorite material and the surrounding architecture as support.
His works go from shadow to light.

Adalberto Mecarelli and his Lux Umbrae exposition at Silvacane Abbey.

The artist created for Silvacane Abbey ephemeral works, empty, immaterial  sculptures but real, made with shadow and light.
Projected on the walls, the ceiling or the floor, these sculptures of light showcase Silvacane Abbey.
The modernity of the works projected are perfectly integrated in the architecture of the historical monument, opening new doors and new windows.
An exposition to be discovered from July 10 to September 30, 2016 at Silvacane Abbey in la Roque d’Antheron. Open every day from 10:00 to 18:00.

Did you know … Silvacane Abbey of la Roque d’Anthéron

Silvacane Abbey is located in the charming village of la Roque d’Anthéron, south of the little village of Lourmarin and of its famous castle in the Luberon.
The history of the Abbey dates back to the 12th century when monks from Morimond Abbey decided to settle in a place called “Silva Cana” (reed forest).
They founded Silvacane Abbey.
This abbey occupied an important place in the area during the 12th and 13th centuries.
Its decline started at the end of the 13th century following an invasion by monks from another abbey, the Great Plague and the Hundred Year War.
Later it became the parish church of the village of la Roque d’Antheron.
It is a classified historical monument. It is being restored since 2008. All rooms are now open to the public.
The abbey hosts many concerts, conferences and contemporary artist expositions whose works contrast and match perfectly the unique architecture of the building.
