Cavaillon's via ferrata: a vertical hike to discover the city in a different way

Located in the Natural Regional Park between Durance and Luberon, Cavaillon has the uniqueness of having in the heart of the city a beautiful natural space: the Saint-Jacques hill
The old city was built at the foot of its southern face, and the inhabitants have always made this area a place for relaxation and walks, a very large garden.
marked hike paths make it possible to discover its Mediterranean vegetation and the climbing path there are famous and numerous (almost 300 ).

The Cavaillon via-ferrata

In June 2013, a via-ferrata  offering two trails was created; it is unique in Provence because it can be reached from the old center of Cavaillon.
One parks in front of the Office du Tourisme and goes to the start of the via-ferrata by taking 15th century stone stairs located behind the Roman arc.
Twenty minutes later, one arrives at the top of the hill and at the start of the via ferrata... time sufficient and necessary to start on the trail.
The beginning is probably the most difficult and impressive, with its downhill along the cliff and the crossing of a monkey bridge.
Then one can do the little loop, accessible to children more than 1 m 30 tall or go on the first and second loop for an average of 3 h depending on the level.
This trail is accessible to families as well as those more sports oriented. Complete equipment is mandatory and we recommend being accompanied by a guide.

Cavaillon via-ferrata, a route for enjoyment and learning.

The via-ferrata is dotted with signs presenting the city, the fauna, the flora of the hill... A fun way to make small stops along the trail
Nature is very preserved and this trail has varied landscapes which make it a source of wonder whatever the season; here nature's colors have, irrespective of the season, an intense luminosity. To the colors respond the fragrances, of garrigue, of pines...
The sport becomes escapade and is akin to the discovery of a Provencal territory, its natural and historic heritage but also gourmet... Cavaillon is also famous for its cantaloupes.
