Flamants roses de Camargue
Contents

The Camargue is divided into 3 parts: the Petite Camargue to the west of the Petit-Rhône, the Grande Camargue, between the two arms of the Rhône, and the Plan du Bourg, to the east of the Grand-Rhône.

Its territory covers the commune of Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the ‘delta’ part of the commune of Arles.

86,300 hectares of land, over a third of which is covered by salt water from the sea.

The contrast of colours dresses the unique animals in the distance: bulls, pink flamingos, horses and birds.

A spirit of freedom pervades.

Have you always wanted to discover this natural park, the Camargue, and its emblematic animal, the pink flamingo?

Then this tour is for you!

DETAILS OF THE EXCURSION TO MEET THE CAMARGUE PINK FLAMINGO WITH A NATURALIST GUIDE

Frédérique and Christophe, naturalist guides, will take you to an inaccessible site, in a protected area to which only they have the keys.

They’ll show you the pink flamingo breeding site, the only one of its kind in France.

During a 4 to 6 km walk along the Camargue dykes, the naturalist guides will help you discover the secrets of these purple-winged birds.

You can observe the colony through a telescope.

The naturalist guides will comment on this lively spectacle and answer all your questions.

On the way back, at the end of the day, you’ll be amazed by the natural light of the moon’s reflections on the water and salt, which can create extraordinary atmospheres.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

This excursion lasts approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.

We advise you to be well equipped: binoculars, walking shoes, suitable clothing depending on the weather.

A meeting point will be given to participants: 5 km will then be covered by car to get to the site. The group will then walk to the colony.
