The Martigues Kite Festival, an international event

The Martigues Festival is renowned the world over.

The event takes place during the week of 23 to 29 April.

Over the weekend of 28 and 29 April, these kite enthusiasts will be flying their magnificent, colourful creations across the skies over Martigues.

From flyable structures to traditional kites, there’s something for everyone.

For the rest of the week, there will also be a host of workshops with a number of leading kite artists.

Young and old alike will be able to take part in demonstrations of traditional kites and pilots.

There will also be an introduction to inflating traction sails, a model aircraft workshop, a wind garden, kite making and sales, and even a candy release.

Enough to delight the youngest and all those who have kept a child’s soul.

A week of festivities under the banner of sharing and respect

The 13th Martigues International Kite Festival will take place on the Couronne beach in Martigues. The festivities are being organised by the Coup de Vent association in partnership with the town of Martigues, which is keen to introduce the curious to the colourful art of kite flying.

It’s a great opportunity to spend some quality time with the family.

Every year, the Festival offers a wide range of free activities so that as many people as possible can take part and be amazed.

It’s also an eco-responsible festival, committed to protecting and preserving the delicate ecosystem of this beautiful Martégale beach. For example, festival participants are forbidden to drive stakes into the ground.

Concrete anchors are provided for kite flyers.

Ropes and sheathing must also be Kevlar-free, a toxic material that could harm local flora and fauna.
