Welcome to the calanques of Marseille!
This themed day out offered by our agency, Plaisirs & Maisons de Provence, will take you along the Mediterranean coast, from Marseille to Cassis, to discover our beautiful calanques.
You’ll be charmed by this calm, relaxing and dazzling view.
The Calanques de Marseille day programme
Around midday, you’ll enjoy an emblematic Marseilles dish made with local produce in a local gourmet restaurant.
Then at around 2 p.m., you’ll set off by boat for the calanques of Marseille for a cruise of around 3 hours, to discover 12 calanques and other magnificent places:
- Callelongue: A fishing port that has become a Mecca of Marseilles gastronomy, this is the end of the ‘road to the end of the world’.
- Marseilleveyre: The Marseilleveyre massif exposes the bare rock, giving you a glimpse of the Mounine cove and its holm oak forest, followed by the Marseilleveyre cove.
- The riou archipelago: Here you’ll find small creeks that are inaccessible on foot along the coast, as well as four islands inhabited by numerous seabirds and reptiles.
- Sormiou: In this large Calanque, you’ll be dazzled by the magnificence of the coastline. Today it’s a small village of unspoilt cottages that the owners have restored without running water or electricity.
- The Cosquer cave: At a depth of around 37 m, this cave, discovered in 1985 by Henri Cosquer, is home to paintings dating back 27,000 years.
- Morgiou-Sugiton and the fallen rocks: A veritable paradise only accessible by boat or by way of a signposted path. Its magnificent waters range from emerald to turquoise.
- L’œil de Verre: L’œil de Verre is a large brown stain that hides the entrance to a cave.
- Devanson and Aiguilles de l’Essadon: Magnificent creeks.
- L’oule: Cathedral
- En-vau: Surely the most beautiful of all, this is one of the most difficult coves to reach on a hike.
- Port-pin: A cove covered in Aleppo pines.
- Port-miou: Now a marina, this is the deepest of all the Calanques. It was the centre of Cassis’ wine and olive oil trade.
