department of Les Bouches-du-Rhone.<\/strong><\/p><p>It is a\u00a0<strong>small mountain range<\/strong>\u00a0that stretches on about 40 kilometers long,\u00a0<strong>from the Durance at Cavaillon to the Rhone at Tarascon.<\/strong><\/p><p>Since January 2007, the Alpilles has been\u00a0<strong>classified Regional Park,<\/strong>\u00a05th in the region and 45th in Alpilles are primarily\u00a0<strong>a rural area.<\/strong>\u00a0The wealth of the massif rests on an exceptional nature, with landscapes shaped by man, benefitting from the first Directive Landscape of France since January 2007.<\/p><p>The park is\u00a0<strong>classified &#8220;NATURA 2000&#8221;,<\/strong>\u00a0a European network to safeguard biodiversity.<\/p><p>More than<strong>\u00a0a hundred rare or protected species,<\/strong>\u00a0many of which benefit from an international protection status (such as the eagle of Bonelli, or the Big Duke Owl), several endemic species of Provence : Ophrys splendida, Scrophularia lucida, Galium trimeroyi, Mercurialis huetti, Campanula also<strong>\u00a0benefits from an exceptional location<\/strong>\u00a0in the heart of a tourist area of high attractiveness. It is\u00a0<strong>surrounded by the Park of the Camargue and the Luberon.<\/strong><\/p><p>The Natural Park of the Alpilles has two main sources of economic activity:\u00a0<strong>agriculture<\/strong>\u00a0(19%) and\u00a0<strong>market services<\/strong>\u00a0including tourism (40%).<\/p><p>The territory has approximately\u00a0<strong>2,000 farms spread<\/strong>\u00a0over the territory of 16 towns, more than half of the farms have less than 5 hectares. The agriculture of the cities of the Alpilles is divided into 2 groups:\u00a0<strong>agriculture of massif, where vineyards, olive trees and hay thrive, and lowland agriculture, with the production of
