known by visitors, the Plague Wall is part of the small heritage of Provence.<\/p><p>Those famous ramparts were built originally to protect the inhabitants of the Comtat Venaissin from the great plague of\u00a0Marseille,\u00a0from 1720 to 1722.<\/p><p>They were built in 1721 by decision of\u00a0Avignon\u00a0and of the<b>\u00a0Comtat Venaissin<\/b>, in order to limit the propagation of the disease.<\/p><p>This sanitary line was then 27 kilometers long between the Durance and the\u00a0Mont Ventoux<b>.<\/b>\u00a0It was guarded night and day by French and Papal troops which prevented all crossing. \u00a0<\/p><p>From 1723, the wall had no longer any sanitary purpose and the stones were used for other buildings.<\/p><p>Today, only 6 kilometers of the Plague wall are still visible between Cabri\u00e8res d\u2019Avignon\u00a0and\u00a0Lagnes<b>.<\/b><\/p><p>A very beautiful walk awaits you. It will take you to <strong>Methamis<\/strong>, pretty perched village of the Ventoux or in the small village of <strong>Fontaine de economy, this forest is now mature.<\/p><p>It covers now 5 hectares<\/p><p>It offers unique environmental conditions to the local fauna.<\/p><p><b>Red squirrels, chickadees and boars<\/b>\u00a0can be
