<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c2d6358 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c2d6358\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Alpilles covers an area of about <strong>50,000 hectares<\/strong>, and it is shared by sixteen communes, such as Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence or Fontvieille, and has about <strong>47,000 people<\/strong>.<\/p><p>When discovering the Alpilles map, we find that several summit areas compose it:<\/p><ul><li>The main part of the massif, called <strong>l&#8217;Alpille<\/strong>, \u201cstretches from the Saint-Gabriel chapel in Tarascon to\u201d the road connecting Aureille to Eygali\u00e8res<\/li><li><strong>Les Opies<\/strong>, east of l&#8217;Alpille, are composed of three small peaks: the <strong>Opies crests,<\/strong> the <strong>Mont Menu and the D\u00e9fends<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Les Collines<\/strong> (or P\u00e8ne rocks) are a narrow chain stretching to the south of the massif from which it is separated by departmental road 17.<\/li><\/ul><p>Besides these summits, the Alpilles consist of several plains that are worth the detour, especially if you like hiking:<\/p><ul><li><strong>The Baux marshes,<\/strong> an area of several hectares between the Costi\u00e8res and the P\u00e8ne rocks, present a flat surface dried up during the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century<\/li><li><strong>The Fontvieille plain<\/strong>, located to the north and northeast of this commune, owes its existence to the cohabitation of the massif with <strong>the alluvium of the Rh\u00f4ne;<\/strong> it is now a large triangular area devoted to the cultivation of vines and olives<\/li><li><strong>The Roquemartine plain<\/strong>, on the opposite side, is located north of Eygui\u00e8res and presents a severe relief with grassy slopes that serve as pasture for sheep and cows of the region<\/li><li><strong>The Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence plain<\/strong> marks the northern limit of the massif. Home to the ancient site of Glanum, this plain is fertile.
